Odessa - the Cosmopolitan City in Ukraine

Odessa is a comparatively new city, founded in 1704 by Catherine the Great of Russia. However the area was populated by various tribes from prehistoric times as it is on the Black Sea. The archeological Museum in Odessa celebrates the diversity of the peoples who inhabited the region before the city was discovered, and it is home to many interesting artifacts.

Odessa has beautiful stretches of sandy beaches for those who would like to to relax by the sea, and there are water sports available for the more energetic. The nightlife is awesome and centered around the area of Arcadia beach, with a variety of nightclubs, bars and restaurants for revelers.

Odessa's main street, Deribasavskaya Street is truly cosmopolitan and if you walk to the bottom of this street on the weekend night you can listen to live music in the City Garden and see the fountain moving to the rhythm of the music. Odessa is a cultural centre and has many theatres, as well as an opera house second only to La Scala in Milan, Italy.

There are restaurants which specialize in different cuisines, among them Italian, Greek, Ukrainian, Georgian, Russian, Mexican, French and Arabic. There are also restaurants and food outlets to suit all pockets and budgets.
