In the last episode is told that - Batiatus desire to take the kingdom and overthrow his father is very strong. He's willing to sacrifice anything including his life to have Ludus.
Quintus Lentulus Batiatus becomes the lanista or manager after he takes over his father's ludus of gladiators. He has dreams of stepping out of his father's shadows by seeking fame and notoriety for his name and achieve greatness for his house. He has a beautiful wife Lucretia, who will lay everything on the line for her husband's glory. Batiatus puts all his efforts to his best warrior, the one who will bring him great fame and honor, his best gladiator, Gannicus. However, there are those who hate Batiatus and his future champions of Capua, plotting against his fort only to end up a failure.

That's kind of the nature of our show. It's not always happy or what everybody wants or expects, but there's a lot in store that will change the dynamics again." Up until recently, I half expected Gannicus (Dustin Clare) was going to die. Then I started to read up on Spartacus history since it had been quite a few years since I had visited that story. Much to my amazement, it seems that he survives and rules the slave rebellion alongside Spartacus, Crixus, and Oenomaus!! Could they deviate from this story? Sure, but what I have noticed about the writers is that they take what happened in history and weave some crazy awesome storylines in between.
Crixus, Spartacus and Oenomaus all have different ideas of what's right. Anyone can go back into the history books and find out what really happened. We're not deviate from that, but some people may think the storyline between Crixus and Spartacus has suddenly resolved itself at the end of Season 1 and they're friends now. Well, forget that! Once they get out there into the world and begin campaign against the Roman army you can be sure that Crixus and Spartacus aren't going to have the same perspectives of how to go about that. That's going to be one of the complexities that will build the drama.
After losing Batiatus (John Hannah) at the end of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, who I feel was the heart of the series, I'm hopeful we will be getting surprise visits from prequel people during season two. Plus, did crazy Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) really die? If you ask me I don't think she did.
They join returning cast members John Hannah (Quintus Batiatus), Lucy Lawless (Lucretia), Peter Mensah (Oenomaus, before he becomes Doctore, the gladiator trainer) and Manu Bennett (Crixus). As the prequel begins, Quintus Batiatus is the acting Lanista while his father Titus is on an extended visit to Sicilia. But Batiatus isn't satisfied with just the thought of taking over the Ludus one day; he aspires to political power and prestige in Capua, and perhaps beyond.In the class-conscious world of ancient Rome, the House of Batiatus must first earn the respect of both politicians and socialites before being granted the right for its gladiators to fight in the much-revered championship bouts called the Primus. Batiatus must not only survive the harsh politics of Capua, but also compel his hedonistic fighter, Gannicus, to embrace being a champion gladiator who will bring esteem and respect to the House of Batiatus."Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" is produced by Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, Joshua Donen and Steven S. As Gods of the Arena begins, the Batiatus from Blood and Sand (Josh Hannah) is not yet the head of the House of Batiatus. Gannicus is the head gladiator at the Batiatus ludus, but the House of Batiatus has not yet acquired the necessary respect in Roman society that will allow its gladiators to vie for the title of Champion of Capua. Gannicus must fight his way up the ranks in the arena, thus affording him the opportunity to become the Champion.
