Lady Gaga - "Born This Way"
Lady Gaga (real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) first came to prominence in 2003 when she emerged from the mish mash of New York's lower East Side and enrolled at New York University's Tisch School Of The Arts.
Since then her rise has been fairly meteoric and she really entered the limelight with her debut album, "The Fame" in 2008. This album spawned the singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face". The album reached number one in six countries. "The Fame" was swiftly followed up in 2009 with the EP "The Fame Monster" - this produced two singles, "Bad Romance" and "Telephone". These both topped the charts around the world and led to a highly successful tour, "The Monster Ball tour".
After "Poker Face" was released, Lady Gaga announced that the song was about her bisexualtity. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she spoke about how her boyfriends tended to react to her bisexuality, saying "The fact that I'm into women, they're all intimidated by it. It makes them uncomfortable. They're like, 'I don't need to have a threesome. I'm happy with just you'." When she appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in May 2009, she praised DeGeneres for being "an inspiration for women and for the gay community"
So what next for Lady Gaga?
We're all aware that Lady Gaga's newest release is going to be called "Born This Way" and that it is going to be released on 26th May 2011. So far that's the only thing we know about the release.
There have been some whispers in the wind that the release will be making some kind of grand political statement, insiders are rumoured to be saying that it does sound like pop at all!
During her visit to the UK in December 2010, Lady Gaga surprisingly hinted at some of upcoming things for the spring: "It's in a very strange way the marriage of electronic music with these sort of major, epic, I dare to say even metal, or rock and roll, or pop anthemic syle melodies, with really sledge hammering dance beats. It's definitively the most innovative of all the music I've done so far" she claimed.
Wow!, that's quite a statement and I'm not sure what to make of it, sounds like we're in for something completely different!
Of all the things we can be sure of, Redone has returned to production duties and the albums title track will be released in February, something to look forward to. But when questioned about the meaning of all this new material Lady Gaga was as evasive as ever : "The funny thing is that some people have reduced freedom to a brand. They think its trendy now to be free. They think its trendy to be excited about your identity, when in fact, there is nothing trendy about "Born This Way"".
