Author: stephenfraser

Do you catch yourself drumming on everything in sight? Do you think the best part of any song is the drumming? Chances are if that describes you that you could potentially be a drummer. The drum is the driving force for music, its beat keeps the time and keeps the music going. If you want to learn how to play the drum you have several options ahead of you. One of those is online drum lessons.

Most folks feel that in order to start learning to play the drums they must first have a kit to play and practice on. For many this stops their dream as they don't have the money or the room for a drum kit in their current home. This road block doesn't have to stop you from starting on the path to your dreams, of course at some point you are going to need a drum kit, but it's not essential in the beginning. For example, you don't require a full kit in order to begin learning the 40 drum rudiments. A flat surface and a pair of drumsticks is a good place to start. Truthfully if you don't have sticks yet you could even use wooden spoons in the beginning. Just take the first step and get yourself signed up for some online lessons, you'll get some creative ideas as you go.

While it's possible you won't be able to get a full kit right away, a drum practice pad is enough to start mastering the rudiments. This is a small pad that has padded surfaces. A second great thing about practice pads is they are sound dampening so you can use them without disrupting others, and since they're small you can easily take them with you while travelling. Drum practice pads will be a point of discussion in the first few drum lessons you'll watch if you choose to take lessons online.

Keeping a steady beat will be one of, if not the firs topic covered in most lessons. To keep time in songs you must be able to keep a consistent beat and time. A second piece of gear you can get even if you don't have a kit yet is a metronome, this will come in handy not just for the drums but just about every instrument, and will come in handy even as you improve and learn more styles of playing the drums.

So if you just can't help tapping out a beat on everything around you when listening to music unleash that drummer you have on the inside by taking online drum lessons.
