If you have been wondering how to choose a live band, then this article will at least get you started! If you have been given the job of organising an event like a wedding, birthday, graduation or any party then the first thing you need to know is that the band you choose needs to appeal to a lot of different people.

Arranging a wedding or any other party is a difficult task as it includes arranging so many things at the same time. There are so many things that need to be organised. One of the most essential parts of this is of course the reception. It is very important that you entertain your guests properly and music is the perfect thing!

There are different ways to entertain guests but the two most common for party organisers is a typical DJ or a live wedding band. Live music can really help make your event that bit more special, but what things should you look out for before hiring a live band?

Initially try and choose wedding party band that the majority of your guests going to enjoy watching and listening to. To do this why not ask some of your guests what they would like to see? Many event organisers do not bother to do this and just go with their own musical tastes which could be a big mistake.

A really good idea is to try and see the band performing live. Many bands do showcases that you can attend which are normally done in small venues such as clubs and pubs. If you can't get to see them live at least get them to give you a demo CD or preferably a video which will give you a good idea of their suitability for your event.

It is important to know their level of professionalism and expertise. Find out how long they have been playing together as a band. Most bands have individual and group biographies on their website. This will give you an idea of the calibre of the party band as a whole.

If the wedding band that you are looking into has a website, you will want to start your research there. They should have some photos, musical tracks and videos for you to look at. These will help you decide whether or not the band is professional enough for you.

Hopefully you should be able to find some testimonials on their website. This will show you how much their previous customers enjoyed their music. Also see if you can find the bands repertoire; make sure that the songs they play are what you want.

Try searching for a music band which will appeal to different types of people. For example progressive jazz or heavy rock appeals to only a small majority of people. Something like 70's soul or disco music appeals to most ages.

While price is a factor, you will want to make sure that the band is truly going to provide you with everything that you are looking for. Once you have ironed out the price and all of the details, make sure that a solid contract is being put together. When you sign the contract and turn it in, you usually have to submit your non-refundable deposit at the same time. This will ensure that the date is reserved for your wedding.

About a week before your wedding party give the band manager a call to confirm the final details. You can check their playlist as well and ask about dress code if you wish to ensure everything will be as you want it to be.

Remember that the band is likely to have travelled a long way to play, so be sure to provide them with refreshments either before or during their performance. Make sure they have a written timetable so they know when they are expected to play.
