If you plan on using your new language by visiting a country where Spanish is the dominant language, learning to speak in the local dialect will help you communicate with the people you meet! A tutor can also teach you the informal understanding of words in local dialects. Also, CDs and books tend to be more formal. However, you can learn slang from a tutor. If you really want to learn another language, you have to get to the point where you can actually think in it. This takes some work, but as you are going about your day try to translate your thoughts into Spanish. You will need to start slow with this. Periodically throughout your day ask yourself how you would say the words you are thinking in Spanish. The more often you do this, the better you will be at it. As you practice, you will notice that you can translate words faster. Before long you might find that you are thinking in Spanish without even making an effort to do so. Then, to improve your conversational skills, you'll want to practice speaking your thoughts out loud.

Surround your self in your new language.

Is there anywhere close where most people speak Spanish? A very good way to learn is listening to fluent speakers converse. You'll also find most people are all to willing to help others learn their language. You can get great practice in your new language without needing to leave the country! Learning Spanish, or any other language, does not have to be frustrating. The net is full of helpful ideas and cool tools to help you.
