How To Inspire Your Anorexic Daughter To Feel Accepted
Most people have at least heard of anorexia even if they have never privately observed it up close and personal. In fact, I have a family member whose daughter been through anorexia while in her high school years. It is a complicated scenario for anyone who is in close proximity to it. You see, an anorexic human being fights a distressed battle to possess a perception of acceptance. This is a personal battle that each anorexic must wage in their lifetime. We will offer some methods you can use at home to get more of a focus on feelings of validation.
There is much you can do at home to directly effect everyone's feeling that they are accepted their in the home. Naturally your daughter has her own thoughts about things, and you can give her direct guidance about them so she feels more confident about them. There are very numerous strategies to tackle this one, and they all have an impression. Slowly work in the direction of drawing her ideas, feeliings and views out and then listen and encourage. If you disagree with her, then be watchful about how you approach articulating it if you do. She needs to feel she is recognised by you when she does express what is in her thought process.
Make some kind of approach for activities involving her and/or the whole family. They don't have to be groundbreaking, simply relaxing for everyone and entertaining to do. The purpose to doing this is to help clear her mind for a little while of the problems with anorexia. Plus it is a very good idea for her to observe more of her immediate environment that make-up the world. She needs to be encouraged to shift her frequent attention away from all the inner demons to more awareness of the good things out there in life. Furthermore, encourage her to tell you, and the rest of the family members, how she thinks and feels about what she views and what you are all doing together.
Certainly mealtime can be a source of stress for everyone and specifically for your daughter. Believe it or not, but there are tremendous advantages to be gained when the family eats dinner together each day. Research has shown that families who get together for meals and eat as one usually have healthier outlooks. When everyone is at the table, never let any kind of heavy and dark silence to gain energy. You want to avert any bad energy from happening. Ask your children how school was and anything else to have a nice conversation. Try to inject some humor, if at all, by recounting whatever that happened that is funny.
By no means appear that you do not want to chat about what is going on with the anorexic condition. But it's up to you to choose when there is too much focus and possible obsessing about it. One thing that is important is to avoid any thoughts that you are reluctant to deal with what is happening. In that spirit, just talk to her about it, answer questions and present your insights in a normal fashion. Just be sure to hold things constructive and forward looking - upbeat.
