So casting him as the vampire Aiden was an obvious choice. Unlike the U.K.'s Mitchell, Aiden's (and vampires' in general) bloodlust is driven by necessity -- instead of it being the drug metaphor, it's actually essential to his life.

For example, he meets a pretty girl and instead of saying a simple hello, he has to pull out an accent and say "Hello, m'lady." Meaghan Rath is more of a newcomer in the acting game, and if the character of Sally goes the same direction as the U.K.'s Annie, it's probably best to say less for fear of spoiling the massive plot surrounding the character.

What remains to be seen as of right now is the "Syfy style" of the series that some critics have pointed out as beginning with next week's episode.

Being Human is an upcoming supernatural drama television series to be broadcast on Space in Canada and on Syfy in the U.S. It is being produced by Muse in Montreal and is based on the British show of the same name made by the BBC.

On June 28, Entertainment Weekly reported that actor Sam Witwer had signed on to play the vampire Aidan in the remake, and that Meaghan Rath had signed to play the ghost Sally with Sam Huntington close to a deal to play the werewolf Josh.

Entirely this TV show Being Human Season 1 Episode 2 will give us lesson and it will inspire us to live according to our own decision.

I was lucky enough to preview the episode and it's an impressive continuation of the premiere.

The cliffhanger is resolved quickly and we also get a quick look at how Sally, Aidan, and Josh came to be with an added bonus origin story in a nice use of flashbacks.

I think adding Emily is an incredibly smart move on the part of the Being Human writers. She gives Josh a great emotional anchor and shows the price paid for being a monster. I also just plain like the character, so I hope we see a lot of her.

Meaghan Rath does a nice job as Sally, but there's not much to her story yet, and until her world is broadened, the show is going to drag a bit when she's the focus. We see more of Danny in this episode, and he sheds some light on their life together.

A few choice (non-spoilery) lines: "Okay, he's quirky." Aidan knows his roommate well. "Danny's pretty open. He voted for Hillary." Hee. "You're a smart little doggie, aren't you?

All in all, Being Human is off to a good start. If it can ease up on the emo as the chemistry between the roommates develops, I think it will be in great shape. I hope it continues to veer away from the original plot-wise and becomes very much its own entity and not just that American remake.
