Most of us have had at least one person telling us to wash our faces since we were born. If you are like most of your friends, you don't really care about washing your face every day--in fact, doing so feels like a chore! When all you want to do is go to sleep, washing your face is a huge pain in the...you know what--even if you can still remember your puberty years like they just finished happening. Here's the truth: to keep bacteria and other things from clogging your pores, you need to keep your face clean. Are you prepared to be the only adult you know who still fights acne every day? Here are a few hints to help you keep your skin healthy.

Be gentle when you wash your face! Don't scrub! Acne has an easier time settling into a face that has recently been scrubbed! Yes your face might feel extra clean right after you finish scrubbing but it won't take long for it to feel painful because the skin on your face is very easily damaged! Giving yourself scrubbing scars can be very embarrassing! A gentle but firm touch is best when you are washing your face. This sounds harder than it actually is. Just remember: if your face is bright red after you're done washing it, that is a bad sign. Looking a little flushed is okay, but bright red is not. A little bit of a glow is healthy but resembling a stop sign is not.

Keep your hands off your face. Have you ever thought about how often you touch your face each day? Letting your face rest in your hands is just one way to clog your pores. Think about it for a minute. If you touch something and then touch your face, in essence, you are touching your face with that something. When rest your face in your hands, the oil from your hands is transferred to your face and clogs the pores. This is one of the best ways for flu germs to travel--a sick person uses an object and then puts it down, leaving some germs behind so that when you then use the same object the germs are transferred to your hands and then later to your face when you touch your face with your hands! So keep your hands off of your face.

If you are unable to keep your hands away from your face make sure to wash your hands often! To keep the breakouts to a minimum keep your hand clean by washing them often.

The sun is not your friend so protect your skin against it! Lathering on a heavy layer of sunscreen might not seem like a good idea if you are concentrating on keeping your pores unclogged. Thankfully there are lots of sunscreens that are not oily.

The days of the heavy, smelly and gloppy sunscreen lotions are over. Now you can choose between sunscreens that are light and can be sprayed on instead of rubbed in. You no longer have to layer on the product because most makeup and lotion already contains sunscreen. An important fact to keep in mind is that tanning does not prevent you from getting zits, it only helps you get skin cancer. There are a lot of different causes of acne. Whether it is a casual pimple here and there or a more serious breakout, it is important to know that you are not suffering alone. Everyone deals with acne at least once in his or her life. There are lots of fixes for skin problems. You might be able to fix your problem completely with a simple cleanser you buy at the store. Your acne might be strong enough that a doctor's help is needed. It might take some time but don't get discouraged because you will be able to clear up your skin!
